We bought this to taste test it and liked it. It is not necessary to put butter in it. We retained some of the water when draining it out, and we added the cheese mixture and powdered milk to the whole thing and stirred it in.

We never bought this before. When making macaroni and cheese, we would cook any type of pasta we had on hand on the stove top by adding the pasta to a pan of boiling water. We would take the pan off the stove top when the pasta was cooked. Then we would add milk and salt to the pasta and stir it in. We usually stirred in some beaten eggs too. Then we would put it all in a baking pan and add any type of cheese we wanted, by breaking it up in pieces and placing it on top of the mixture. We would then bake it in the oven set at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

But if you are in survival mode, and don't have the time to make macaroni and cheese this way, or are not able to store fresh cheese, milk, eggs, and butter, then these boxes of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese would be a good alternative to add to your stockpile. Just check the expiration dates and rotate your food supply to keep the expiration dates updated.

So with this Kraft Macaroni and cheese, all you need to add is water to cook it, and powdered milk with the cheese packet after it is cooked. Therefore, this product can even be used when you are off-the-grid, camping, backpacking, etc. You can take a few boxes with you. It is lightweight and inexpensive. But remember to have powdered milk to add to it, and have enough water on hand to cook the macaroni. Again, you don't need butter. It tastes really good without it.

Don't let the boiled water that you drain out of the pan go to waste, when you are conserving water. It can be used to rinse off dirty utensils and rinse out dirty pans.
