  1. Use Dawn to wash clothes by hand instead of laundry detergent. It cleans them just as clean and is much easier to rinse out than detergent. I personally hand wash my clothes this way. I have not used the Dawn in a washing machine to wash clothes. From my research I found that it should not be done. It may over-suds the washing machine and possibly break it. I found this interesting because of my experience washing clothes by hand. The Dawn was easier to rinse out of the clothes than detergent. I experienced the detergent making more suds than the Dawn. Because of this, I had to rinse out the laundry detergent numerous times compared to rinsing out the Dawn about 3 times at the most. However, to contradict what I found on some websites that said not to use Dawn in the washing machine, they might have meant just Dawn and nothing else, because I found this recipe for laundry detergent using Dawn: Laundry Detergent Recipe One-fourth cup Borax 1 gallon distilled water 2 tablespoons Dawn Dish Soap 1/3 cup washing soda Mix it together in a large container

What I think they have done here, in this laundry detergent recipe, is replace the commonly used Fels Naptha bar soap with the Dawn. I happen to have this homemade laundry recipe in another blog using various brands of bar soap. You can view the other blog by pressing here: HOMEMADE LAUNDRY DETERGENT.

I have used this homemade recipe using bar soap, not Dawn, for many years, It is an excellent laundry detergent. Proceed using any of these suggestions above, at your own risk.
